My name is Mrs. Clay, and I am your Tuesday/Thursday Panther Den teacher.
Today I would like to get to know you better as a student so that I can plan for our time together. Next time I see you, we will spend some time getting to know one another using a few different strategies.

  • First, take a few minutes to complete a learning styles inventory.
  • Next, take a few minutes to complete a reading survey.
  • Please hand in both of the surveys and then log into Learning Ally.

Let's watch two short clips about Dyslexia and Learning Ally.

First, we will make name plates. Pick a brightly colored piece of paper from the stack. Fold it horizontally (hot dog style).
  • Write your name in the middle.
  • Write your learning style above your name.
  • In the upper right hand corner write your dream career.
  • In the upper left hand corner write the name of your favorite class from this year, or in the past.
  • In the bottom left write one of your hobbies.
  • In the bottom right write the name of your favorite movie or book.
  • Now, let’s share the details on our name plates with our classmates.

Today we will read: The House
  • First, read the short story and circle with your pencil whatever you think is important.

  • Now, read the selection again. This time use a yellow highlighter to mark places in the text a robber would find important.

  • You will now read the selection a third time. Underline in another color any places in the story that a home buyer might think are important.

  • What did you notice about the three times you marked the text? What if you read your tests like a detective? How could this help you as a reader?

  • o The first time was probably the most difficult because you didn't have a purpose.
